Vinyl Pull No. 72 – Eide’s Entertainment List Part One

Superman Comic, Dance, Disco

I worked at a Marriott Hotel for a short time.  It’s not really anything I take pride in, but I am happy that I met a cook named Adam and he told me the following little tale, which I found a bit unusual. First, a little background on Adam—he was almost always high on pot, but still very energetic and borderline angry—he also drank a minimum of 5 cans 24-ounce cans of Icehouse Edge a night, which carries an 8 percent ABV.  He was a very forward and aggressive person and, on some downtime, he decided to share this with me —

“I was out drinking at a dive bar and met this girl.  She was ok looking and probably just as drunk as me.  We went back to her place and smoked a bong, and I went down on her.  She was getting into it so I decided to lick her ass a bit.  She jerked her body and pulled me up by the hair and yelled, ‘what the fuck are you doing?!!!’

She then slapped me hard in the face and kicked me out of her apartment and I never spoke to her or saw her again.”

What I found unusual was the girls reaction.  That, to me, was  a nice thing for Adam to do to her—AND brave since ostensibly she was not the cleanest girl in the world and she had not just  showered.

Here is something else unusual—but not saucy or disgusting.  It is what I find to be an unusual list and it comes from Jim at Eide’s Entertainment in Pittsburgh.  I can say confidently that Eide’s is one of the coolest shops I have ever stepped foot into, and overwhelming with four floors of records, comics, books, movies, posters etc.  I picked up a graphic novel that Jim personally recommended and two great old paper backs but more on that in another post coming soon.  For now, here is Jim’s great and unusual list:

Here is my top 10 Disco songs NOT by Donna Summer or the Bee Gees, in no particular order:

Gonzalez – Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet

Vicki Sue Robinson – Turn The Beat Around

Earth Wind & Fire With The Emotions – Boogie Wonderland

Debbie Jacobs – Undercover Lover

G.Q. – Disco Nights (Rock-Freak)

Cheryl Lynn – Got To Be Real

Gary’s Gang – Keep On Dancin’

Sylvester – You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)

Deniece Williams – I’ve Got The Next Dance

The Michael Zager Band – Let’s All Chant

Just looking I am not sure I know any of these songs well but will have to listen and see which that I do recognize.  What a great list though, right? I would have never thought of doing one like this and that makes me enjoy it more. The closest I regularly get to listening to disco is Paul’s Boutique or maybe The Boogie Nights soundtrack so this gives me something to do! And you too and you can thank Jim at Eide’s Entertainment for that—check out the link to their store here:

Again if you can make it in there I highly suggest that you do, I think it’s one of the coolest stores in the country.

  1. I love the scene in Pulp Fiction when Vincent finds the bar and Mia says “Disco”.
I also got into KC and the Sunshine Band for awhile.

  2. I do agree with all the ideas you have presented in your post. They are really convincing and will definitely work. Still, the posts are too short for beginners. Could you please extend them a little from next time? Thanks for the post.
