Vinyl Pull No. 66 The Human League- Dare

The Human League Dare Vinyl

I am somewhat of a skeptic and that is one of my favorite questions ever.  This may be a surprise, but it didn’t come from Descartes.  It came from my cousin Seth as we were getting prepared for a wedding and our grandmother was helping us with our neckties.  She was asking us questions about the wedding, most of which we didn’t know the answers to, so Seth hit her with a question of his own.  “Oh my God, Seth!” was her somewhat flustered response.

Here is a question that you may be asking yourself, “What the fuck does this have to do with music, you insipid asshole?”

Nothing really, I just think it’s good to be reminded from time to time to question everything.

I don’t recall ever snorting percoset, though I once worked with a lady who did it in the middle of a bartending shift and her face turned green.

If I was going to hoover a pill the album I might listen to is the Human League’s Dare.  I really had no exposure to this title before Ian, from The Needle Exchange, was gracious enough to give us a top ten list of 80’s synth pop albums.  The album is upbeat and poppy enough to keep it fun but also has some dark moments, would that lend to a better experience with percoset?

Let’s just assume it would.

This is an album that I would never have considered before, but the list Ian made was intriguing enough I have been trying to give them all a chance and so far I have not been disappointed.  I have found you can learn much from other’s top ten lists and that is the foundation of our app TriYou which is in its last stages of development. I was also able to get Dare on wax at The Needle Exchange for a great price.  Here is one of my favorites off the album, it just happens to be the opener.

Here is something fun, and very productive to do—in the chorus when they sing “These are the things, these are the things”.  Substitute, “cream hollandaise, cream hollandaise.” There are great hooks throughout the album and as a stated before it has some dark undertones –that was unexpected for me, though I have to admit I didn’t know shit about this band. Here is one that may make you want to dance your fuck right off.

If you are curious about 80s synth pop I think this is as good as place as any to start.  The only song that I recognized off this release was “Don’t You Want Me”.  I think you would know that one too.  If you are curious about snorting percoset, and I don’t want to sound preachy here, I suggest abstaining from that.  For a good clean rush shake up a two-liter bottle of Diet Coke and give yourself an enema. Or put on some short pants and dance to Human League’s Dare.

As a bonus I will present one of my other favorite questions of all time and it comes from the movie Kingpin, “Can you get sick drinking piss?”
