I’m going to cheat on this one. It won’t be much of a stretch for me, I have been using anabolic steroids and special K to control my fucking temper, many would consider that cheating, I do believe. The cheating, however, I’m talking about now is on my girlfriend. I am going to think about the salad bar at Golden Coral while I masturbate.
ALSO, I’m fixin’ to talk about an album I don’t own on vinyl (I say fixin’ now—EAT ME!).
The album in question is Sympathy for Life by Parquet Courts. I haven’t been able to get out to a record store lately—partially due to covid-19, some soiled underpants and throat gonorrhea—I had to use spell check for gonorrhea, more cheating.
I would like to own a physical copy of Sympathy for Life, and I think it would be good for me to talk about some more current releases, so I don’t feel so old, stupid and lactose intolerant.
The album has a great opener, Walking at a Downtown Pace and the second track is worth listening to right now.
This is one of the best recent releases I have heard and quite possibly is my favorite of 2021. It reminds me of Cory Hart. Well not really but there is some guitar work on Just Shadows that does suggest Stephen Malkmus, and everyone knows that Malkmus is one of the best. I have found that Parquet Courts have a wide range of sound, and they make them all fit, especially so on this release. I am realizing presently that I need to listen to them more. I also like Wide Awake and am terribly fond of their collaboration with Daniele Luppi, Milano—another one I need on wax!
If I had to choose right now, I would pick Sympathy as my favorite from them, but I do need more exposure to make an informed decision, and they are on my shortlist of current bands I would really like to see live.
Let us now listen to Just Shadows and enjoy the guitar work. If you listen really close you just might hear a baby orangutan whispering, “that is a really loose catcher’s mitt” but only if you have had a heavy dose of LSD. Otherwise just enjoy it as it is:
I think I could have picked any of the eleven tracks on this one and it would have been OK, if not with you then with me and I am here to please myself—I must find another buffet to jerk myself to before my girlfriend discovers my last indiscretion. I am starting to get really angry with myself for not presenting the track, Homo Sapien, the vocal cadence and groove is pretty breathtaking.
Damn It! The title track is really good too, I might punch myself right in the mouth. If you are unfamiliar with this band, I think this would be a good place to start. As for now, you are also starting to piss me off, the steroids don’t seem to be working.
Until next time,
P.S. The last song just might be the best—SHIT, PISS, TWAT SANDWICH!!!!!
