Well this offering is going to be different in a few ways. First and maybe most important is that I have tested positive for Covid 19. It’s been a long hard road but I finally got there and I’m so proud it’s hard to contain myself.
YOU DID IT ROBBY!
I do feel pretty terrible, possibly somewhat due to my surroundings, I am writing this from a Subway inside of Wal-Mart, mask-less and chest puffed out trying to encourage confrontation. I was not sure exactly what to do when I got the test results so I did what any rational person should do in my circumstance—I googled it. I have gotten some pretty solid advice and so far to alleviate some of my symptoms I have:
Taken a shit bath
Sprayed Windex directly into my eyes
Administered a Diet Coke enema—this is easier than it sounds, you just shake up a 2-liter bottle of DC and shove the mouthpiece right up your asshole.
Reluctantly I will now move on to the music. The 1st song that came to my mind in relation to my ailment was Led Zeppelin’s Sick Again. Then I thought of Mudhoney’s Touch me I’m Sick and Here Comes Sickness. There are a couple Mudhoney albums I really need on vinyl. I only have, in my collection, Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge and Live from Third Man Records. I certainly need to get Piece of Cake and My Brother the Cow.
My Brother the Cow is possibly my favorite Mudhoney LP if I had to pick just one. I have yet to run across it in a record store and I just checked and a deluxe version is available on Amazon for 33.99 but I try to buy at real record stores if at all possible.
I remember liking My Brother the Cow immediately from the 1st song to the last song . The guitar tone throughout is gritty and raw—Steve Turner is one of my favorite guitarists, no flash—just adds to the song like I think a guitarists should. The opening riff of Judgement, Rage, Retribution and Thyme is pretty indicative of what you’re going to get on this one.
And the riff from Today is a Good Day is one of my favorites of the decade:
I listened to this album incessantly my senior year of high school and even did an art project depicting the cover art and got a C+
FUCK YOU! Mr. Wilhelm.
As I am listening to this album again for the 1st time in a long time and its hard for me to pick a favorite. The whole album sounds really great to me still and of course would be more enjoyable on vinyl. So my first order of business, after I find a good place that will deliver Diet Coke in bulk, is to call the record store and see if they can order it.
I suggest you do the same and even if you don’t have Covid and aren’t talented enough to contract it, you should give yourself a DC enema.
