Dear Science by TV on the Radio is the album I would like to talk about today. In 7th grade it may have looked something like this:
But in my older, more reasonable days I will say:
Please blow me
I am currently, however, thinking about the album. This one is my favorite from front to back from TV on the Radio, but when I listen to Return to Cookie Mountain, I know that is pretty damn good too, and recently I have gave Seeds some attention but can’t find that one (or hardly any other TVOTR long player on vinyl).
Dear Science is a very complete album and just to have two songs as good as Love Dogs and DLZ on the B-side is very impressive. I had not fetched this record out of the stack in probably over 10 years.
I’m Sorry. Could you still blow me?
I really don’t deserve it considering my neglect and as I heard it earlier today, I felt a little stupid for not listening to it more often. TVOTR always draws comparisons to Radiohead in my mind, which is a good thing, according to my mind. Dear Science does have that feel at times but also has a sound that is unique, not quite like any other band or album I can put my finger on.
It’s also dear to me since I saw them on tour supporting this album. It was in a great little venue in Cincinnati called Bogarts and the Dirtbombs opened. A fantastic show and what was even better was a friend of mine got kicked out just as TVOTR took the stage whilst he fired up a bowl.
Incidentally I was with the love of my life at that show, only I didn’t know it at the time, she refused to give me any and after 10 years of waiting I finally got some.
TVOTR put on one of the more entertaining and FUN concerts I have ever witnessed live.
The material was great, as well as the musicianship and energy. I would really like to see them again and always look forward to any new offerings they might have on the way.
Do you think the Earth is Flat?
